6 Tips to Keep Seasonal Allergies Under Control

Share

For many people, seasonal allergies can cause a sea of headaches, literal and figurative ones. When the allergy season is at its worst, allergies can awaken symptoms such as itching, runny nose, sneezing, eye redness, and a general feeling of discomfort. These symptoms can really make it hard to go about your daily life and feel comfortable in your skin. However, there is some good news after all. There are some steps you can take in order to control your seasonal allergies and stay sane throughout the season. Here are some of the best tips for all suffering from seasonal allergies who are done with sneezing and blowing their nose all the time:

Avoid exposure to allergens

Probably the most effective way to prevent seasonal allergies is to avoid allergens. However, this is easier said than done because allergens are all around us during the peak season. What you can do, though, is stay indoors during the days with a high allergen count. It’s also smart to keep your windows closed to keep allergens outside. When going out, don’t hesitate to put on a mask to reduce exposure. To keep the indoor air clean, you can invest in an air purifier with a quality HEPA filter which can catch allergens and keep your air safe.

Keep your environment clean

It’s important to keep your environment clean for many reasons, and keeping the allergens away from you definitely counts as one. Regular cleaning, vacuuming, and dusting can reduce the number of triggers for your allergies during the season. Another thing you might boost is the number of times you wash your clothes and bedding. When the season of allergies comes, you can do more frequent laundry loads, vacuum your carpets a few times a week and go over the furniture and curtains with a vacuum as well.

Use allergy medication

Luckily, we also have certain medications available for fighting allergies. These meds include antihistamines, nasal sprays, decongestants, and eye drops, both prescription and over-the-counter. You and your doctor can work together to create the best plan of attack on allergies. Once you come up with a plan, make sure to stay consistent because taking meds as prescribed can relieve your symptoms and make your every day more comfortable.

Consider immunotherapy for allergies

Sometimes, prescription and over-the-counter meds are simply not enough to ease your allergic reactions. In that case, you can try immunotherapy for allergies, which is a great ally in your battle with this condition. In order to help you develop immunity, this type of treatment entails gradually exposing you to small amounts of the allergens that cause your symptoms. Immunotherapy is a long-term treatment that can eventually lessen your allergy symptoms, often forever, so it’s a serious investment in your future and health.

Keep your body healthy

Your body’s health might have a significant impact on your allergies. Your immune system can be strengthened by eating a nutritious diet that is high in vitamins and minerals. To provide your body with the nutrition it requires, try to consume plenty of fresh produce, whole grains, and lean proteins. The management of allergies also depends on getting enough sleep. To assist your body in recovering from the previous day and preparing for the one ahead, aim for 7-8 hours of sleep each night. Make sure to get lots of physical activity each week (indoor, of course). Regular exercise can also assist in strengthening your immune system. At least 30 minutes of moderate exercise should be your ideal goal.

Reduce stress

Just like any health concern, stress can also worsen your seasonal allergies. Therefore, it’s crucial to manage the stress that you face every day. You can start practicing various relaxation techniques like yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, engaging in hobbies, spending time with friends and doing other activities you like. Of course, make sure these activities are done in a safe environment free of allergens.

While seasonal allergies can be very difficult, there are a number of things you can do to lessen your symptoms and maintain control of them. As you can see, there are several easy measures that can help you manage your allergies and lead a full and active life. Since each person’s allergies are distinct and may necessitate a different course of treatment, it’s critical to work with your doctor to determine the best strategy for you. You can successfully manage your allergies and lead a happy life by using the appropriate measures.
