  • Relevant: It will make a difference if the change is made.
  • Time-bound: Decide on a realistic timeframe.

Your point of view is important to consider while figuring out the kinds of activities that qualify as “self-care” for you. For example, let’s say you’re just starting out with jogging and want to build up to 5 kilometers a week. It’s possible that the activity of running itself won’t be fun for you and that you’ll suffer through every minute of it as you first get started. 

But if achieving your objectives gives you a sense of accomplishment, it might still be beneficial. If you put in the effort, that practice will allow you to say things like, “Look at what I did today.” If you’re making progress toward your objective, and that makes you happy, then it counts as self-care, even if, in the now, it doesn’t feel like it.
